Frequently Asked Questions

  • If an entrant meets the “amateur” criteria but performs occasionally, performed professionally in the past, or has a solo or album release, they cannot have previously been signed a major label recording deal within the past 3 years. If they have a solo/album release or recordings available to the public, they must have paid for the production themselves, i.e. it is not the result of a major label recording contract within the past 3 years to be eligible for amateur status.

  • A contestant must be over the age of 18 and residing within the United States at the start of the competition.

  • The age of entry in the Northwest Indiana’s Superstar Karaoke Competition is 18.

  • You must be legally here in the United States and must be eligible to accept the prize*, if awarded, with the unrestricted right to work for any U.S. employer and live in the United States. Proof of such eligibility must be provided to NWI Superstar. Acceptable forms of proof include (without limitation) a valid US passport or combination of valid US driver’s license and valid social security card.

    *Satisfaction of this eligibility requirement pertains solely to the participant’s receipt of prizes (if any) that may be awarded by NWI Superstar.

  • If you would like to participate in the NWI Superstar Karaoke Competition you must try out in person at an official Audition Location*.

    (*Video Auditions will be held for those out of state or with documented situations preventing in-person auditions. This is authorized on a case by case basis.)

  • Yes! Please do!

  • For the context of this contest, an amateur singer is one that does not perform for a living making over 20% of their income in a professional capacity, regardless of whether or not they have a day job; Does not perform in 10 or more shows a year. Does not have a signed recording or performing contract as a singer with a professional label and does not have a manager.

  • Participants in major vocal television shows will be considered as amateur singers as long as they did not win the show they were on, were not included in the final rounds of the competition and were not given any contractual obligations that might be in conflict with participating in the current NWI Superstar Karaoke Competition season.

  • Yes! There are cash prizes for 1st & 2nd place winners as well as a Team prize. The cash awards and prizes are listed out fully on this website. The biggest prize in the NWI Superstar is something everyone that everyone wins in the connections and friendships with an incredible group of like minded artists and incredible individuals from around Northwest Indiana.

  • To audition, the registration fee is $15.00 USD.

Competition Advice and Tips.

 
  • Pick a song you are familiar with and best shows off your vocals.

  • NWI Superstar will provide the track but in case you use a different version please have a MP3 version with you.

  • Have more than one song prepared!

  • Its a good idea to have different genres and styles under your belt as backup.

  • Each audition is only 60 seconds, but the screeners may stop you or extend your time.

  • Dress to impress! You will be recorded and photos may be taken.

  • Make the song performance your own.

  • Dream Big! Don’t limit yourself and stand out!

  • Practice in front of friends or family and take advice.

  • Be original and not boring.

  • If competing, think big and outside the box.
